Creating a picture perfect, magazine-worthy display takes time and money. And yes –  creativity! We are constantly browsing magazines for inspiration and are sometimes left feeling inadequate. This feeling is just not right! We are all capable of creating beautiful, seasonal displays. While you may not think your home is magazine-worthy, you may be surprised what a few items can do to spruce up a space.

Seasonal decorating is most likely our favorite thing to do! We love to see the amazement on the faces of guests when they realize the feast for the eyes that can be attained by using a few seasonal accessories paired with items they already possess.

We like to think of items that will last throughout the season (not just Halloween or Thanksgiving). This year, leaves are a favorite of The Gray Boxwood. Sprigs of leaves (real or fake) can adorn various spots within your home and turn an ordinary display extraordinary with a touch of fall flare.

Here we turned a bland shelving unit displaying a collection of ironstone into a spectacle with leaves flowing off the shelves. The concept of taking what you already have and simply embellishing with seasonal goods is simple, but effective. We used a wonderful preserved leaf from Save on Crafts; these are perfect! The qualities these leaves possessed when living are kept forever with vibrant color. (Everyone always thinks they are real!)

Leaves can also create the perfect wreath around a pumpkin sitting atop an urn. These leaves are the perfect way to finish a look. We admit that the pumpkin would look wonderful alone on any urn. But adding a wreath of leaves creates a professional touch.

Or try adding leaves into a group of pumpkins and bittersweet for added texture!

Remember, do not limit yourself by thinking you do not have the creativity it takes to create amazing seasonal displays. The more you play around and test ideas, the more experience you will have. We often overanalyize and think decorating has to be perfect and professional. But the key is to keep it simple! Use what you have and only accent what you always live with. After all, it is the best way to make décor feel at ease. Try some leaves out and explore the simple perfection fall gives us!
